Manager’s report: Bruce Renwick
The club had a very busy and successful year, starting off with the
Continental Cup of Curling in November.
Special thanks go to Mike McAstocker and Terry Bodman as well as all our
club members who once again proved that Chilliwack Curling Club puts on a first
class affair. We then hosted the
Police Zones and then the visit. I
think the visit form the Scotsmen to our 48 team Men’s bonspiel was the
highlight of my season. We also hosted
the BC Firefighters Championships in February, thanks to Earl Werk and his crew
that brought that event here.
The leagues were down a bit this season and this is an area we all need
to address. We all need to encourage
new people to take up our game and join our club so we can keep it strong in
the future.
Proshop sales were strong again this season. I will be bringing in a new line of clothing for the fall. Bar sales were up over last year.
We have 15 rentals booked for over the summer.
League entry forms were not mailed out with newsletter but I have copies
available.
Leagues will begin September 21, 2007.
Thanks to all the club members that volunteered their time this
season. The club is only as good as its
members.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Advertising & Publicity- Doreen Roper
On ice advertisers are contacted during the summer in regards to
renewing their advertising spots. The
costs for all our advertising spots remain low.
Curling club advertising is good advertising and members are encouraged
to patronize our advertisers.
Building & Maintenance: Earl Werk
Brine headers were replaced by Fraser Valley Refrigeration for approx.
$20,000.00.
Quotes were also requested for a new roof, due for replacement in the
future.
Minor repairs were done in and outside the building throughout the year.
New tables and chair were purchased.
Draws and Bonspiels: Dick Allan
Both draws for the day and night leagues went smoothly. Those responsible for the daytime draws did
an outstanding job. The same can be
said for our club manager, Bruce Renwick for his work in doing the evening
draws.
We are asking all curlers to keep their games moving along so as not to
cause delays in ice maintenance and start times for waiting teams.
The 2006-2007 season was an extremely busy one for the CCC. There were a number of bonspiels held
throughout the year during the day. We
also hosted the CCC Men’s, Ladies, Mixed and Chilli Spiel, we held the Police
Zones in January, the Firefighters in February and the ICBC bonspiel.
Our club bonspiels were very successful – both on and off the ice.
Men’s and Mixed spiels resulted in a profit of approx. $4100.
A highlight of the Men’s Bonspiel was the participation of 5 teams from
Nairn Curling Club in Scotland.
Next year the CCC will not be hosting as many bonspiels and consequently
will be able to devote more time to ice improvement and maintenance.

Golf Tournament to be held May
27th at Aquadel. 44
registered golfers so far, contact Aquadel if you want to reserve a spot. $35 includes green fees, dinner and prizes.
New Year’s Eve Dance and Drain the Keg Night were also well received and
successes.
Wayne McAlpine is Top Dog.
An Open House was held Sept. 8th, some interest shown.
Curl BC: Marilyn McComb
A delegates meeting was held in Sept. in Abbotsford. It provides a forum for sharing ideas and
this year the focus has been to:
Develop innovative strategies to attract new members to the sport of
curling.
Find ways clubs can improve their bonspiel attendance and to encourage
novice curlers to participate.
Last but not least, to try to introduce curling as a selected sport in
High Schools.
In Sept. Doris Torrence was hired by Curl BC as Regional Coach to
deliver clinics and coaching services in our area. Information for clinics will be posted on Curl BC website.
The International Tankard returned this season as a volunteer
recognition event for 24 curlers from BC and 24 from western US states. This year the board voted to recognize Fred
Phillips for his hard work and dedication to this club. Fred attended this event at the Marpole
Curling Club. He had a great time and
his team retained the Tankard for BC.
Junior Curling: Laura Watson
The junior Curling program at the CCC had a very successful season and
saw increased number of participants and some great accomplishments by a number
of the Junior curlers.
A Learn to Curl clinic was held in Sept. About 20 attended.
The Monday Junior Curling League was made up of 13 teams.
The Little Rockers were fewer in numbers but much improvement was noted
once the smaller rocks were in play.
The league enjoyed great support from some of the regular members. Their time and effort was greatly
appreciated. More help is always
needed.
The junior program was sad to lose Al Seanor, as he was stalwart
contributor to the program. The first
Al Seanor Memorial Fun Bonspiel was held in January for the Chilliwack Junior
Curlers. It was a great day for all
involved.
The Continental Cup was a great opportunity for may Junior curlers to
volunteer and watch world class curlers compete.
The juvenile girls team entered the playdowns in Mission but failed to
qualify for the provincials. They
gained experience and will try again next year.
Chilliwack and Sardis High Schools entered boys’ and girls’ teams in the
Fraser Valley High School Playdowns in January. The Chilliwack girls’ team qualified for the Provincials in Trail. Sardis boys’ made it to the final but lost
out to the Chilliwack team.
It was a great experience for both Chilliwack teams to be involved in a
well run bonsiel in Trail. Special
thanks to the CCC, Day Ladies, Masters, Business Girls for all their moral and
financial support.
The following club members offered their services to coach the Sardis
and Chilliwack High School teams: Nancy
Wilson, Lisa Deputan, Rick Jones, Laura Watson. Thanks also to Bruce Renwick for all his support.
The Junior program ran two skills days, Pizza, drinks and prizes were
awarded.
Thanks to all for the support of our Junior Curling Program.

receive funding.
Note that under the previous funding policy, there was a $600 limit on
all funding. In addition teams
representing Masters and High School would not qualify.
Ice Committee: Dick Allan
The committee informed the membership that it was trying to address issues
concerning our ice conditions and that some experimenting would be taking
place.
BJ Gagnon, Curl BC Ice Technician was invited to meet with Board and Ice
Technician.
A survey concerning ice conditions was drafted and distributed to our
members.
A meeting was held with representatives of the Tuesday Night Competitive
league.
Took some of our rocks to Abbotsford to see how they react to their ice.
Brought in a set of conditioned rocks for our members to see how they
react on our ice.
For upcoming season:
BJ Gagnon will be conducting an Ice Technician course at our club and
will be supervising the installation of our ice.
Committee will meet and decide whether or not to condition our rocks.
The Board is considering the purchase of a new ice scraper.
We will be using Jet Ice which will remove mineral and organic content
from the water and provides to harder, more durable surface.
We are considering removing some of the dividers between the sheets of
ice.
The Board will be making ice conditions a priority for the 2007/08
season.
President’s Remarks:
Another successful year is behind us.
Thanks to Bruce Renwick for the foresight to apply to the CCA & WCF

on the job of host co-chairs and making such a tremendous success of it. We did receive $25,000 from the CCA for our
efforts.
