07. Manager’s Report

1. $400.00 cheque for BC Club Challenge mailed for a Men’s and Ladies entry.

2.  Barb and Neil Long  have been nominated to Region # 11 for the International Tankard.  Cheque has been issued to Region #11 for $200.00 for their entry fee.  They can bring back the hotel receipts for a cheque to be issued.

3.  BC Safety Authority did an inspection on Jan. 12.  They are starting to crack down on all power plants in the province since the Karen Magnusson incident in North Vancouver.  We are working with him to bring our plant up to risk assessed status.  James and I have addressed a number of their concerns and a number of others are in the process of being rectified.  We should get through this season although a number of upgrades will have to be done before the end of this season as well as through the summer.  We will try to achieve risk assessed status over the summer and open next fall under that classification.  One of the major issues is with the qualifications of staff required to have the public in the building.  Ken Nicholles and myself will be taking a RSA course at Versacold on March 29 and right the test at the Safety Authority on May 15.  The cost of the course is $333.00/person and eventually all staff will be required to take this course and certification.  The inspector is coming next week to do a follow up and has been informed of the number of checks off his list that we have achieved.

Projected new costs per season after we achieve risk assessed status will be be between $2000.00 and $3000.00 for calibrations, safety checks and tests.

4. ICBC and Chili Spiel went well and we are set for the Men’s bonspiel this weekend.    ICBC has booked for next season.  UFV staff was in last Friday for an ice rental.  Private Birthday party on Saturday.  We have bookings on just about  every Saturday and Sunday until the end of the season.
